I was thinking I'd learned a new cultural reference. But far more mundane. Fwiw, I've never heard of it described as syrupy. You may be on to something.

Am I missing something? If that was an inadvertent reference to something druggy, I don't do them. (But have often wondered what LSD would be like...)

Coffee
ZMA tablets are sold by almost all supplement/health food shops etc as a recovery thing but i think zinc is the active "sleep" ingredient.
There's a lot of it in steak and seafood. Combined with morning gym and intermittent fasting (a big meaty meal in the evening) my "insomnia" pretty much vanished. Might not work for everyone but worked for me and the internet is full of similar stories.
Really worth giving stuff like this a go before trying to source zopiclon or valium etc and getting addicted like most people seem to do.

I really couldn't give a fuck how my nights sleep goes, if it's good then great, if it's not great tough shit get on with it and hope it's better the next night. All you modern day sterile cunts banging on about diets, exercise, taking pills, blah blah blah. Fuck off.

I smoke a joint before bed and sleep 6 or 7 hours. If I don’t have a joint I can’t sleep until very late and that’s been the case since I was a baby.

I didn't know about the zinc thing, but it may explain something. The wife has got us on a high vitamin/mineral regime, which includes some syrupy concoction with zinc in the name at night. An hour or two later and I'm zonked. Never thought the zinc could be responsible. Thanks!

Are you looking at a laptop, tablet or other VDU more than usual? If so, might be worth cutting down on that, especially in the evening, as it can disrupt sleep patterns.

You need to discipline yourself and manage your time as if you were still commuting or going to work - certainly in the morning.
Morning exercise is a good idea but you'll find, at first, it simply knackers you again and you need a couple more hours kip - keep at it as it could take 2 or 3 weeks for your body clock to get back into sync.
At the same time, try to not allow work to regularly spread into what was previously your personal time. If that os not so easy for you, try one of those clocks used in speed chess to flip between "time working" and "time not working"; at least that will give you a personal view of how your time is being used at home.
Note that speed chess clock information breaks down when accessing WHO from the office as "time working" has no meaning..

Had similar and saw my Dr.
She said double drop Nytol.
I was so slow and weary the next day but slept like a log and subsequent nights just had one.
After 4 nights I'd broken the pattern and stopped taking them.
Food, drink, exercise and a good sleeping environment are important too.

Also try intermittent fasting.
There's literally near infinite info online about it, too much to explain here.

Do shit loads of burpees every morning. Like aim for about 100-200, even if in sets of 10 or less.
Wake up about an hour earlier than normal to do so
Used to REALLY struggle with sleep deprivation and being knackered all day especially when being more sedentary than usual, and the only proven way i found to sort it was early morning exercise.
Beats any medication. And the only side effect is you get a bit fitter.
But also try zinc tablets. One with last meal of the day. Doesn't knock you out but found makes you sleep a bit deeper.
